Season’s Favorite Holiday Cookies

I have two childhood memories that center around Christmas cookies. My Mom’s no-bake cookies and my Aunt’s sugar cookies. I can still see my Mom stirring the cocoa for the no-bakes and can still smell their savory, sweet, aroma. I remember being just barely tall enough to peek up at the waxed paper-lined kitchen counter to sneak me a cookie while they were still warm.

My Aunt made the best sugar cookies that I can remember. The shapes that I remember the most were the Christmas trees, the candy canes, and the wreaths. I like soft doughy cookies and my Aunt’s were the best. She lived just three blocks down from our house and I still remember walking to her house with my parents…visiting, and eating those cookies. Those were the good old days.

What are the cookies that you remember as a child? Which ones were your favorites?

If you’re like most people…you will come up with the following four

*Sugar Cookies

*Chocolate Chip Cookies

*Peanut Butter Cookies

*Gingerbread Cookies

These four kinds of cookies are America’s top pick when it comes to holiday cookies. There are many variations of each kind. But my favorite…other than the cookies I mentioned at the beginning of this article, is chocolate chip cookies. Every Christmas, my Sister-In-Law brings everyone in the family a big bag of them. It’s a tradition with her. She enjoys baking chocolate chip cookies for us all.

Below is my Sister-In-Law’s recipe

(It’s actually the same recipe that is in the Betty Crocker cookbook)

bettycrocker.com

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened

1/3 cup shortening

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 package (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

(The original recipe calls for 1/2 cup chopped nuts, my Sister-In-Law doesn’t include nuts)

Directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix sugars, margarine, shortening, egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, 8 to 10 minutes.

Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

I look forward to these every year. I too, have made them many times and they don’t last long around our house. My Husband loves them.

Do you bake cookies for the holidays? Everyone has their personal favorites.

If you’re baking cookies this Christmas, don’t forget to leave Santa a special plate full of them.

Happy Holidays to all!

The Road Trip Vacation

An exciting way to spend your vacation is to take a road trip. Many of us are in love with our cars, washing, waxing, and polishing them until they are gleaming bright. Well, for a road trip, they need to run as hassle free as possible.

To do so, you need to give your car a good over all inspection. How are the tires, the depth of the tread, the tire pressure? Is it time to have the tires rotated? What condition is the spare tire in? You don’t want to wait until you get a flat tire and then find out the spare tire is missing or needs air. Also, before you head out on the road for your vacation you need the check the battery, look over the timing belt for cracks and signs of wear and tare. Check the oil and change it along with the oil filter, check the air cleaner and filter, along with other fluids as well. Fluids like coolant, brake fluid, windshield wiper fluid and the wiper blades. Inside the car you should run the air conditioner and heater too.

After you car is operating at peak performance, there are other safety options to consider. Do you have jumper cables, a blanket, flashlight, road flares and a working jack? Plus, a basic toolbox is nice to have as well, with wrenches, screwdrivers, and maybe a breaker bar. All of these will ensure a safe worry free road trip vacation.

Now you need to determine what your vacation destination is and the length of stay. Are you going on a day trip, for the weekend, a week, or longer? Who will be driving? Do you have one or multiple drivers? What are the age ranges of the passengers accompanying you? Are they all adult or are you taking children as well? Prepare for stops along the way to stretch, eat and fuel up. Don’t to forget to think of some games to play and bring water and snacks. A pillow or two may be welcomed as well. Something else to have on hand is spare change for Toll Roads. There is nothing worse than facing a Toll Booth with no change on hand, although most have an attendant on duty in at least one lane.

Taking a road trip can be a fun relaxing vacation experience, if it is thoughtfully planned out. It has also become easier than ever to stay on course with the help of navigation equipment that can be bought or most likely factory installed in modern cars. So, if it’s a drive to Grandma’s, an amusement park, or an educational adventure that awaits. The road trip vacation, can bean enjoyable inexpensive way to achieve a refreshing change of scenery.

Survey Provides Insights Into Travelers’ Needs

While everyone knows that there’s no such thing as a “free lunch,” travelers do like to look for a free breakfast and will often select a hotel that offers one.

That’s just one finding from a recent survey-conducted by Harris Interactive and commissioned by Best Western International. The survey findings offer some insight into what travelers of all ages look for when booking a hotel and what customer service means to them.

Here are some key highlights:

The top three considerations travelers indicated when choosing a hotel were price (78 percent), convenient location (64 percent) and free breakfast (49 percent).

Interestingly, travelers 55+ are more likely to choose a hotel based on convenience of location (70 percent) than younger travelers between the ages of 18 and 34 (56 percent), who don’t feel location is as important when booking a hotel.

On the other hand, younger travelers between the ages of 18 and 44 tend to book hotels that offer fitness centers and pools (45 percent).

Travelers of all ages agree that room service or a restaurant on-site is important when choosing a hotel (18-34: 31 percent and 55+: 31 percent).

Regarding customer service provided by hotels, U.S. adults who stay in hotels say that free parking (75 percent), the concept of feeling “at home” when they’re a guest (67 percent) and having a strong knowledge about the local area-and thus being able to share valuable tips and highlights (63 percent)-score highest when it comes to excelling at “customer care.”

Other top responses include offering free essential toiletries (beyond shampoo and soap) when they’re forgotten (63 percent), providing a free airport shuttle (54 percent), providing a free local newspaper or USA Today (51 percent), offering free products in the room (such as coffee, mouthwash or lotion) (35 percent) and providing a free bottle of water in the room at check-in (35 percent).

“For more than 60 years, Best Western has provided travelers with convenient locations and a range of amenities including breakfast and free high-speed Internet,” said Best Western’s Ric Leutwyler. “Guests who see the Best Western sign know that they can expect the same high level of customer care, comfort, service and value anywhere they go around the world.”

The Advantages Of A Cloudbased Ticketing System

When your company has to arrange mass ticketing for an event, or you are hosting ticket sales, a Cloudbased ticketing system can be quite the saviour. The advantage of the Cloud virtual system is that the server is off site, and that many access points can be created for a single desktop. Suppose your company is based in the US, and you’re hosting an event in Paris. Can you imagine how difficult it is to pull off the organization and sales duties that lie associated? Thankfully, with e ticketing being one of the marvels of the Internet age, such problems have been cut to half.

A Cloudbased ticketing system is a little more sophisticated than normal e ticketing websites or other virtual platform. E ticketing doesn’t merely include selling concert and movie tickets; the expression in fact represents any form of token or queuing system that works online. This also goes for managing customers online who have lodged a complaint and are waiting for its resolution, or for clients who have booked a product or service and are waiting for delivery. Their unique numerical code that is used to identify their booking is also an e ticket which falls under the Cloud system’s solutions.

E ticketing is easy for the provider, and convenient for the customer. The customer pays for his or her product or service and receives a numerical ticket to signify their purchase. When the company delivers in due time, they verify with that ticket number to confirm that they have indeed delivered against payment. This system of organization of sales is one solution provided by Cloudbased ticketing systems.

The system is also effective in managing post sales service and complaint registers. Often, a company doesn’t want to have a call center service because that would lead to massive expenses. Instead, online complaint bookings are by far easier to keep a track of and organize. Say for example your company sells electronics. You may be receiving many complaints and product related trouble shooting demands every day. A call center or helpline would be both very costly, as well as more complicated to manage. In the Cloudbased ticketing system, the clients will simply register their complaint with details online and receive a ticket number. This will help you keep track of the complaints managed, as well as cross verify and manage the problem more efficiently with the numbered identification.
